The wine club’s annual BBQ in the new marquee in Martyn Wakeman’s garden
NEXT MEETING: October 15th 7.30pm Village Hall
Annual report 2012-2013 presented to the Annual Parish Meeting by Michael Headland:
The Group is just coming to the end of its third year and I’m pleased to report that membership has now increased to 40 members. The majority of the members do come from Granby and Sutton although we now have 4 members from other villages. We started the current year with an Italian Evening in the village Hall followed by a members bring your own evening in May when we tasted South African wines. We had to move dates in June to avoid a clash with the Gardening Club but enjoyed a successful presentation by Andy and Liz Gan on Central European wines in the Village Hall on the 26th of June. We planned to have a Bar- B-Q in Martyn Wakeman’s garden on the 20th of July but, because of the rain, we had to move it to the Village Hall at the last minute but I think everyone enjoyed the food and the wines of the USA. In August we had an interesting talk and tasting by David Harrison in the Village Hall on wines of the Americas. The September presentation was by Keith and Sian Hamson on the Rioja wine region of Spain with wines that they brought back with them from their holiday in that region. In October Ann et Vin from Newark visited the Village Hall and we sampled her current offerings and tried to answer a quiz she set for us. The November meeting in the village Hall saw us tasting Beaujolais wines presented by Keith Hamson and Martyn Wakeman and in December to help us all get into the Christmas spirit the Committee presented for tasting Champagne and sparkling wines which was well received. The New Year started with Keith Hamson presenting a tasting of wines from the Lebanon in the Village Hall and in February we visited Pauls Wine Bar in Bottesford for one of his wine tasting evenings. March we were back in the Village Hall when Andy Betts gave a talk

We finished the year in the Village Hall with a presentation by Andy and Liz Gan on wines of Douro in Portugal which we all enjoyed. We have a full plan for the coming months including a BBQ for June when we all hope the weather will be kinder than last year. The subscription rate has been maintained at £10 per member.
